Children’s Party

Children can also enjoy the Carnival style atmosphere of New Orleans! Encourage kids to dress in costume, provide masks to play dress-up with, or tie in other themes.

Decorate

To make your birthday boy or girl feel extra special let them wear a crown to be King or Queen of Mardi Gras for the day and/ or get them fancy Mardi Gras beads like the blinking jesters to wear!

To achieve the Carnival style atmosphere for the party, decorate with beads on table or arranged as centerpieces. Also decorate with purple, gold, & green streamers, balloons, and confetti everywhere. Click here to check out our decorations page!

Additional theme ideas:

Swampland

If you want to have an outdoors party or a pool party, consider incorporating the Swampland theme. Decorate with tropical plants and spanish moss. If it’s a pool party, get an inflatable alligator float for the pool. Don’t hesitate to use touches of purple, gold, & green with balloons, streamers, and pool toys! Children will love imagining that they are swimming down on the Bayou!

Masquerade Party

Children are always looking for an excuse to play dress-up. Now you have a reason to let them! During Mardi Gras, almost everyone dresses in costume. To keep with the Louisiana theme, suggest costume ideas like a jester, swamp creature, or Mardi Gras King or Queen!

Activities

Now you need to keep those kids busy! Play the usual children’s games and award beads, cups, or other "throws" as prizes or make up special New Orleans party favor bags (See Below).

Some traditional games with a New Orleans twist:

  • Musical chairs with jazz music
  • Pin the hat on the jester
  • Scavenger hunt for doubloons-whoever finds the most wins!
  • For older children, scatter doubloons at the bottom of the pool and let the kids collect them. Have scuba masks handy for them

Cake*

  • Order a King Cake with the purple, gold, & green Carnival colors or special order it with your child’s favorite colors
  • Frost cup cakes with purple, gold, & green icing (vanilla icing can be dyed with food coloring) or sprinkles
  • A three layer cake-either white cake with each layer dyed purple, gold, or green with white icing and sprinkles on top OR white cake with alternating colored icing between layers. (Green and yellow inside and purple icing covering the outside or vice versa)

*Unfortunately our King Cake season is over, but you can make your own with our easy to make King Cake mix. It comes with everything you need to make your own delicious king cake!

Favor Bags

Fill bags with a strand of specialty beads (medallion of a crawfish, alligator, and/ or carnival mask), doubloons, a plastic Mardi Gras cup, candy (such as the chocolate coins wrapped with gold foil), a small stuffed animal, hair accessory, or toys in purple, gold, & green. Toy ideas: parade floats often throw stuffed animals, small Frisbees, and bouncing balls.

Goodies can be placed in clear cellophane and tied off with purple, gold, & green curly ribbons.
