Many people don’t realize that New Orleans celebrates St.
Patrick’s Day (which usually falls within one month of Mardi
Gras) with such enthusiasm! Of course there are parades and lots
of throws. The streets are lined with people dressed in green
trying to catch some of the unusual throws or receive a green
carnation from a Krewe member. The floats throw beads, cups, medallions,
and doubloons, but what many don’t know is that they also
throw cabbages, carrots, and potatoes as well!
So if you’re celebrating St. Patrick’s Day this year,
do it with some style-New Orleans style! Serve up some hurricanes
with your beer (green or otherwise!), give out beads or other
throws!
